Mira sits somewhere right between being the little one and the grown-up. She’s younger than Nilah but older than Raagu and Malar, and because of that, she sometimes finds herself floating in the middle — not the smallest who gets all the cuddles, and not the oldest who gets all the responsibilities. Most of the family, caught up in everyone else’s busyness, tends to miss her quiet sparkle. But not Paati. Paati sees her clearly. In fact, Mira is Paati’s absolute favorite. She is the one who sits with Paati for hours, listening carefully, watching, learning.
Over time, Mira has picked up Paati’s gift for pickling and making all kinds of delicious relishes. She knows which mangoes are best for pickles, when to add just the right pinch of salt, and how to tell when something is perfectly ready to eat. Paati often says with pride, "Mira’s got the magic in her hands too." But that's not all Mira has picked up. Just like Paati, she’s started spinning little stories of her own — colorful, exaggerated, and always a little bit unbelievable. She might tell Raagu and Malar that she once saw a crow that could count or that a jar of pickles once sang to her in the kitchen!
Unlike Nilah, who loves her books, Mira isn’t one to sit down and read for hours. She likes being outdoors where she can breathe, move, and explore. The forest edges, the rocky paths, the breezy hills — that's where Mira feels happiest. Some days, when Nilah takes a break from her books, the two of them go hiking together, laughing at silly jokes and racing each other up little slopes. Mira’s sharp eyes are always the first to spot wild berries, strange bugs, or animal tracks on the trail. She remembers every shortcut and every hidden nook, like a secret map in her mind.
Though Mira isn’t the loudest voice in the family, she brings her own kind of brightness to their world — a mix of earthy skill, wild imagination, and untamed energy. She might not always ask for attention, but somehow, through the scent of fresh pickle in the kitchen, the rustle of leaves underfoot, or the sudden burst of a made-up tale, Mira leaves her mark everywhere. In her own quiet way, she makes sure she’s never truly forgotten.
